With a city filled with design for one week there’s way too much to see, lots of new places and not enough time. During the weekends and after work I grabbed my camera and wandered around the city. Here’s a quick selection of things that caught my eye:
I was amazed by the beautiful ‘Luminous Entity Type 1’ , a light that can be adjusted by movement, because of the sensors in the wood. Nice work by Jansen en de Bont!
And there were more nice light designs at the Klokgebouw:
I also visited Design Daily’s, they organised a special Alessi event, where Gabriele Chiave (the art director of Marcel Wanders) introduced the designs of the cooperation of Marcel Wanders and Alessi; accompanied by some very nice tunes by Ineke Hurkmans and the delicious Italian bites of Cucina Italiana:
De Kazerne surprised me, they openend a lot more rooms for the DDW exhibition and showed a nice combination of big installations, such as the moving glass bij Studio Drift, the design ‘airconditioning’ by Rick Tegelaar and smaller art objects:
Medaillons by Carina Wagenaar:
And these candles by Studio Thier & van Daalen are on the wish list!
The ‘Modebelofte’ surprised me again, because of the special way of presenting fashion designs within a theme (Adaptive Travelers). At the Bijenkorf they created a room that looked like an airport with the typical lights on the ground and the projections of airplanes on a wall:
As ambassador of this Dutch Design Week Maarten Baas presented his exhibition ‘Maarten Baas Makes Time.’
